Several sources have confirmed that a mass shooting in Finetown, South Johannesburg has had fatal consequences. In total, it is understood ‘around a dozen people’ were hit by a hail of bullets – and ‘at least four victims’ are said to have passed away as a result of their injuries.
Johannesburg mass shooting: What we know so far
The mass shooting comes just days after the US Embassy warned of a potential terror attack in the ‘Greater Sandton’ region. However, this incident has taken place on the opposite side of Johannesburg. It’s not yet thought there is any connection between the two.
Finetown is no stranger to high crime rates – but a mass shooting of this kind stands out like a sore thumb. The neighbouring suburb of Ennerdale finds itself halfway between Johannesburg and Vereeniging. It is easily accessible, given its location to the N1.
Police remain at the scene of the crime, and forensic investigation teams are also present. As of 13:00 on Sunday 30 October, law enforcement officials have not been able to fully establish the motive behind this heinous crime.
